How to Destroy Your Own Mental Health

I’m not sure why anyone would intentionally destroy their own mental health, but I see so many trying hard to do it, I thought this would help.

It won’t require all of these to accomplish it. In fact, the first one alone should be enough.

Below each heading, I’ve included Scripture of light, so you can read it and do the opposite (Also, if you change your mind, you’ll have the antidote).

* * *

~ Follow every sordid hashtag connected to humanity’s vilest people groups. Immerse yourself in details and pictures until you’re unable to sleep. Soon, every intimate contact with another human will remind you of the victims, until your mind will no longer be able to bear it.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. ~ Philippians 4:8

~ Feel personally guilty for the suffering of the world. Believe that as you carry this awareness and heaviness, you are co-suffering and thus connected with those who suffer in the farthest reaches of the world.

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. ~ Romans 12:21

~ Isolate yourself. Stay away from happy people, and assume they have no problems. Avoid family gatherings, unless your family doesn’t get along; then by all means, go. Don’t share your struggles with your friends unless they are incapable of cheering you up. Avoid doctors and professionals that can help you.

Two are better than one… If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. ~ Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

~ Never, ever, ever pray.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 4:6-7

~ Abuse sleep aids. Stay in your pajamas as long as possible. One day won’t be enough; you’ll need to be unkempt for several days in a row. When you stop brushing your teeth and showering, you’ll know it’s working.

How long will you lie there…When will you get up? …Too much of this and poverty will come on you like an armed criminal and take all you have. ~ Proverbs 6:9,11

~ Refuse to see goodness in the world, especially in your immediate surroundings. Quench all gratitude with pessimism and dark sarcasm.

I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. ~ Ecclesiastes 3:12

~  Do attend every argument you’re invited to.

Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they start fights. A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. ~ 2 Timothy 2:23-24

~ Saturate your entertainment with darkness—books, movies, games, podcasts, and “music” should be about arguments, death, evil, mayhem, horror, violence, seduction, self-harm, and injustice. Watch only TV shows with bitter hosts. Scroll what’s trending, and never miss the evening news.

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. ~ Proverbs 4:23

~ Deprive your body of nutrients and water. Eat more fried or cheesy fast food to slow your internal functions.

You say, ‘I am allowed to do anything’—but not everything is good for you. And even though ‘I am allowed to do anything,’ I must not become a slave to anything. ~ 1 Corinthians 6:12

~  Dwell on the past. Re-hash particularly painful moments in your mind often.

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. Watch! I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way…. ~ Isaiah 43:18-19

~ If at any time you feel drawn toward light, or hope, or love, ignore it. It’s probably the Voice of God.

I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the Light of life.” ~ John 8:12

~ Never give anyone anything, or help in any way, because it releases dopamine.

Give, and it will be given to you—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.” ~ Luke 6:38

~ Avoid laughter.

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. ~ Proverbs 17:22

~ Tear yourself down verbally. Your mind will signal your body to respond to the negativity.

I will give thanks to You, God, because I have been so amazingly and miraculously made. Your works are miraculous, and my soul knows it. ~ Psalm 139:14

~ Stay indoors. Keep blinds and windows closed.

Everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for everything that is illuminated becomes a light itself. ~ Ephesians 5:13

~ Focus on what bothers you about your spouse. Your connection will cause the extra negative energy to fuel your inner discontentment.

The two shall become as one. ~ Genesis 2:24

~  Let politics consume you.

I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. ~ 1 Timothy 2:1-2

~ Study all conspiracy theories. Dwelling on the ways reality and perception do not align is a perfect recipe for madness and paranoia.

Do not call conspiracy everything this people calls a conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not live in dread. ~ Isaiah 8:12

~ Meditate on ideas, current events, and people that make you angry.

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no root of bitterness grows up to poison you and everything it touches. ~ Hebrews 12:14-15

~ Feast on gossip. Local, celebrity—all of it.

The tongue all by itself is a whole world of wickedness, able to corrupt the entire body. It can set your whole life on fire…. ~ James 3:6

~ Be jealous for what other people appear to have.

What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. ~ James 4:1-3

~ Allow the curse of unforgiveness to do its work in you.

Don’t be anyone’s judge, or you’ll be judged. For you will find yourself being treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. ~ Matthew 7:1-2

~ Speak worst-case scenarios over your life.

What you say flows from what is in your heart. ~ Luke 6:45

~ And most importantly, live in fear. Find statistics and talking heads that feed your fear. Fear attracts what you’re afraid of, so don’t just think about it, talk about it often. Surround yourself with people who are afraid, because fear is very contagious.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. ~ 2 Timothy 1:7

Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. ~ Joshua 1:9

Tell everyone who is discouraged, Be strong and don’t be afraid! God is coming to your rescue… ~ Isaiah 35:4

The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? ~ Psalm 27:1

Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. ~ Deuteronomy 31:6

For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.  Do not be afraid, for I myself will help you,’ declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. ~ Isaiah 41:13-14

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. ~ Psalm 46:1

Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith? ~ Mark 4:39-40

The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Psalm 34:7

But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats. ~ 1 Peter 3:14

I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me.  He freed me from all my fears. ~ Psalm 34:4
