This Holy Moment

20151013_153141At a restaurant where we pretend to have manners, my husband Heath thanked God for our meal and I began sawing away at the girls’ steak. Suddenly Selah stopped the action by offering to pray also. So we all froze in place, Etta Rose with a cheek full of food, as the thankful cherub launched into a song…

“God, we thank You for this meal, for this meal!

This is how we really feel, really feel…!”

There was a time when this would have embarrassed me a little. Hurry-up, kid, is what I would’ve been thinking, but Selah’s name means pause and reflect on this holy moment. It’s who she is.

As her singing grew a bit louder than fancy normally allows, I imagined her Angel in heaven removing his hat to share this moment with her, and as she finished her song to the Lord, maybe the winged warrior whispered the ancient pause, “SELAH.”

“Make sure you don’t look down on one of these little ones, because I tell you that their angels in heaven continually behold the face of My Father.” ~ Jesus
