Quitting God

I quit God.

I got on my knees—bowing—and told God I didn’t believe in Him anymore and I quit. I was afraid to look. My heart slammed my chest as I told the God I didn’t believe in, I was done.

The irony of it surely made Him grin, like a father pelted by an infant’s fist.

Then, in the hush of expectancy, Mercy fell. I heard the Voice of Lovingkindness, deep like a knowing, a frequency only the heart can hear, saying, “Of course you believe in Me. You don’t believe in the false god you’ve always worshiped.”

Never in ten thousand, thousand years did I expect God to answer me.

Now I was different.

I’d heard from God and lived to tell about it. He was kind…He was so very kind… After all those years of thinking He’d smash me to ash if I ever got too honest, of thinking my car didn’t start because I wasn’t living right, of hearing church-folk say backsliders were getting what they deserved… of empty religion…

I’d quit God and come out a Believer.

So what was I to do? I didn’t know how not to follow the false god of emptiness. To whom would I go?

Jesus.

He would know.

And this was the genesis of my revival…the beginning of knowing that I know nothing but Jesus—crucified for my forgiveness—who promises God is Love.

God is Love.

“If anyone confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they live in God. And we have come to know and depend on the love that God has for us. God is love….” ~ 1 John 4:15-16

“I have loved you with love that never, ever ends. I’ve drawn you to Myself with lovingkindness.” ~ Jeremiah 31:3

Sweet Sally. Thank you for moving to this new “location.” I have opened a folder just for your writings–so when your Memaw stops by and asks: “Have you heard anything from Sally lately?” I can say that I have and open the folder for her! I do enjoy your writings–and so does she.
